Article 24 – Right to rest and leisure

"Everyone has the right to rest and leisure, to reasonable limitation of working hours and to periodic holidays with pay."

Explanation of Article 24

It is thanks to the trade union movement that today people - at least in the West - no longer have to work 12 or 15 hours a day and do not have just one day off per week. These achievements - reasonable limitation of working hours, paid holidays, the right to rest and leisure - are enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as human rights. It is obvious that very many people around the world - including many children - are excluded from these rights and are exploited in a blatant way.
