Article 28 – Appropriate social and international order

"Everyone is entitled to a social and international order in which the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration can be fully realized."

Explanation of Article 28

Every person's right to a social order that realizes the rights and freedoms set forth in the Declaration is directed at every state. As has already been mentioned several times, every state has a duty to spend its money in such a way that the country's inhabitants can lead a life of dignity and an adequate standard of living is guaranteed. The international order that is intended to contribute to these goals addresses all states and the international community, for example within the framework of the UN. This gives rise to a moral obligation to provide development aid and to contribute to improving living conditions in the poorest states. Unfortunately, this article has largely remained a dead letter: the gap between poor and rich states is getting wider and wider, as is the gap between the rich and poor within most states.
