Article 7 – Equality before the law

"All persons are equal before the law and are entitled, without discrimination, to equal protection of the law. All are entitled to equal protection against any discrimination in violation of this Declaration and against any incitement to such discrimination."

Explanation of Article 7

This article obliges states - in contrast to Article 2, which prohibits discrimination in the application of the rights of the Declaration - to apply their laws equally to all people. States may therefore not differentiate on the basis of race, religion or gender when applying the laws.
